Design ideas: boho chic kitchen

Designer Victoria Pashinskaya will reveal the secret of boho-chic style.

Kitchen area: 13 sq. m.

From the designer: “Masha and Marat’s kitchen area allows you to organize the space ergonomically and comfortably, however, the room seemed dark and cramped. The guys could not agree on what style solution would suit both of them, therefore, in order to combine their interests, I chose an extravagant style in which you can safely combine different textures, colors and materials – this is boho-chic. A style that emerged in the early 2000s, based on “bohemian style”. Translated from French, the word “Bohemian” means “gypsy”.

Problem:

1. The functionality of the interior has not been thought out: there is no competent zoning of the room, due to which the kitchen of a large area seems cramped.
2. Marked floor tiles and boring color scheme of the walls.
3. Outdated kitchen set, little storage space.
4. Inconvenient location of the sink (in a niche, in a corner)
5. Of the sources of illumination, only the “Ilyich” light bulb and a sconce over the working area.

“Kitchen in boho-chic style in 10 steps”

1. To visually divide the space into functional areas, the designer decided to paint the wallpaper in different colors. In the green zone there will be a headset – this is the cooking zone, and in the yellow zone — bar counter — this is a home office.

2. According to the designer’s project, Masha and Marat’s kitchen will feature an author’s installation of iridescent wallpapers and polyurethane beams decorated with bronze paint. bright color wallpaper — a characteristic feature of the boho-chic style. In addition, longitudinal striped wallpaper glued to the ceiling visually increases its height.

3. For flooring, choose a laminate of 2 colors. We lay along the kitchen, alternating tiles. We solve two problems at once — The new floor covering is easy to maintain, and this installation also visually stretches the room.

4. The new headset consists of more storage boxes. We combine facades of 2 colors. Wall cabinets — light wood, base cabinets — dark. Such a solution, firstly, corresponds to the boho-chic style, which involves a combination of furniture of different colors and textures, and secondly — light wall cabinets create the effect of light, airy space.

5. The niche where the sink was located becomes functional – now it houses part of the headset. By increasing the area occupied by the headset, the working surface increases. As a gift to Masha and Marat, the designer painted a family coat of arms on the door of the headset, intertwining letters M and M.

6. Separate lighting appears in the dining area — two lamps in oriental style. Also, a separate backlight is placed above the countertop.

7. We attach a bar counter, created according to the author’s drawing of the designer, close to the headset. You can sit behind it from both sides at the same time.

8. Instead of chairs at the dining table, the designer put a chest. You can not only sit on it, but also store textiles, children’s toys and rarely used dishes inside.

9. We put a rack with open shelves, decorated with curtains, near the refrigerator. Here you can store souvenirs, decor items or dishes.

10. We decorate windows with muslin threads and beads instead of tulle curtains – a characteristic technique for the boho-chic style. We decorate the walls with bright photo frames, inside of which there is wrapping paper with a dynamic ornament.

Tips from the designer: how to add boho-chic?

• Want to try but afraid to take risks? Buy colorful utensils. Yellow, red, green and blue plates on your table at the same time is a great way to add boho chic to the kitchen.
• Buy plain white rice paper lamps and spray paint them. They will turn into bright lanterns and your kitchen will be transformed.
• The frames on the walls will perfectly replace the usual hats. Different in size and color, they will immediately make it clear that you are a fan of boho-chic.
