Design ideas: how to make a kitchen for work and cooking

“Sveta created a mini-office in the kitchen right at the dining table, she didn’t have enough time to cook for her husband (for which he criticized her), plus the uncomfortable kitchen didn’t inspire the girl to cook. First thought: our heroine is a business woman, so she needs a “mission control center” (especially since the theme of aviation is not alien to our heroes), from where she will control everything that happens on the stove, in the oven and …. in the laptop. Since Sveta is already in the kitchen – half done – she doesn’t need to be lured there. It is necessary to make everything convenient, functional and beautiful – which will inspire the girl to culinary creativity, ” – says designer Olga Povarova.

Problem:

1. There was not enough lighting in the kitchen of Sveta and Dima.

2. Old wallpaper was covered.

3. Instead of an oven, there was a drawer for dishes under the hob.

4. A dilapidated sofa spoiled the overall look of the kitchen.

Solution:

1. The new kitchen has a lot of light sources. Lighting is divided into three groups:

– overhead light above the dining group;

– LED kitchen worktop lighting

– sconce lamp – illumination of the working area

2. For the new interior, designer Olga Povarova chose a glossy set with smooth lines and facades. Kitchen furniture was placed on two walls, thus increasing the storage space for the necessary kitchen utensils. In addition to the hob, an oven, extractor hood and dishwasher were installed.

3. The refrigerator, sink and stove were placed not in one line, but at an angle, thereby forming a “triangle”. This arrangement is even more ergonomic, more convenient and safer for work, which means that the speed of cooking increases and the time and effort spent on “standing at the stove” is minimized.

4. The new kitchen is dominated by 3 colors – white, black and burgundy.

5. To set off the bright color of the headset, countertops and backsplash, the walls were painted in a neutral beige color.

6. There are 2 tables in the new kitchen of Sveta and Dima! One for lunch, the other for work, especially for Sveta. It is a continuation of the countertop and is made of natural stone. This material is not afraid of temperature changes, and is also resistant to mechanical damage. We placed the working table in close proximity to the stove, so that Sveta could turn to the stove with one movement, without looking up from her work.

7. A metal sheet was installed on one of the walls, on which it is convenient to attach various work notes and recipes using magnets! We paint the sheet in the color of the wall so as not to visually crush it.

8. Smooth lines of chrome-plated facade handles fully support the aviation idea – they are “streamlined” like the lines of an aircraft body.

9. One of the main accents in interior design was a full-wall poster with an image of an airplane. Designer Olga Povarova drew the sketch of the aircraft herself, scanned and enlarged the image, and transferred it to the wall with the help of large-format printing.

10. We changed the window and hung blinds instead of curtains. This is a good solution for such a room, since the kitchen of Sveta and Dima is located in the inner corner “g” – figuratively built house, and now it is possible to block visibility from neighboring windows with the help of blinds. Curious looks will no longer interfere with a young family!

Designer Tips:

• magnetic wall – very comfortable and functional! Transfer all your favorite magnets from the refrigerator door to the wall, fix the recipes. You don’t have to scratch the doors. Well, given that modern refrigerators are increasingly with tempered glass doors. – this is a great way out. The magnetic wall can be made in different ways:
  – sheet of metal, decorated in the desired color – magnetic paint! Yes, yes, this has been around for a long time! – vinyl film with a magnetic coating.

• glass apron – easy and fast installation! And a very effective and modern replacement for traditional tiles. The glass can be both colored and transparent, and any collage of your child’s favorite photos or drawings can be placed behind it! Thanks to the ease of installation and dismantling, you can change the design behind the glass, thereby updating the overall design of the kitchen much more often than if you change the tiles.
