Designer: Natalia Lomeiko
Kitchen area – 10 sq. m.
From the designer: “Kolya and Nadya are quiet homey guys who like to spend all their free time together, so I wanted to make their kitchen a kind of “house” for lovers! Considering that they dream of going to the sea together, and Kolya lived on the ocean in childhood, I suggested to the heroes the idea of life inside a large ammonite – a symbol of the ancient ocean! To create this illusion, the entire geometry of the new kitchen is built in a spiral. So the person standing in the middle of the kitchen is inside the shell.”
Problems:
1. Dismantled ventilation duct – violation of building codes.
2. Plaster is falling from the ceiling.
3. There is no lighting at all: instead of a lamp, there is a discus thrower for decoration.
4. The sink is located in the corner, and water is dripping from a broken faucet.
5. Old kitchen set.

“Shell-Shaped Kitchen in 10 Steps”:
1. We restore the air duct using a drywall construction: we increase it by 10 cm so that it is equal to the countertop. In order not to lose extra space, we make shelves in the design where you can put accessories and kitchen utensils.

2. We transfer the sink to the window. To do this, we stretch the pipe along the adjacent wall, bringing the sink drain as close as possible to it. A rickety, rusty faucet caused a lot of trouble in the old kitchen. The new faucet is very convenient, because the hostess can adjust its height.
3. We transfer the refrigerator to the wall to the left of the sink. Here we build a drywall box for it.
4. We paint the walls in white, gray and fiery red. The red tint adds brightness to the interior and makes the reading of the “ancient ocean” theme as modern as possible.
5. The ceiling is made in the form of an ammonite shell. This helical, two-tier design creates a feeling of lightness and slight rotation.
6. To enhance the effect of “shells”, we abandoned the right angles in the room. To do this, rounded the corners of the room, using concave strips of plexiglass with backlight. The design of plexiglass is very interesting, we pasted a print imitating onyx stone on it. It kind of resembles sand, which also refers to the theme of the ocean.

7. We solved the problem of lighting with the help of LEDs in a multi-level stretch ceiling. Additional shell-shaped lamps are located on a decorative panel on the golden wall.
8. The set was chosen in two colors – gray and burgundy. Deep noble shades tune in a calm, thoughtful way. The mysterious reflections of smooth cabinets will visually expand the space. All surfaces are easy to clean. The doors are equipped with comfortable handles and closers, so they move gently and close quietly. Next to the stove is a compact and roomy box for storing bottles.
9. Appliances and headsets are located according to the law of the triangle. One of the non-standard solutions is to place the oven on the countertop, to the left of the box. It is convenient to use it, and at the same time, the place between the ventilation duct and the wall is successfully used.
10. One of the brightest accents is the kitchen apron above the work surface. It is made of glass with a cut of ammonites printed on it. The lighting under the shelf emphasizes its unusualness.
