Any owner of a country house dreams of gas: after all, this is the cheapest and most efficient way to provide a home with heat and hot water. But is your house ready for gas connection?
There are many ways not to freeze in your home during the harsh Russian winter. This is the traditional, dating back centuries, stove heating. And appeared relatively recently electric. And fashionable, environmentally friendly, geothermal, when the heat of the earth is used to heat the house. But, of course, in terms of economy and efficiency, none of these methods can yet compete with natural gas heating. In addition, gasification is moving across the country at an accelerated pace. And if the gas pipeline has not yet reached your summer cottage or village, it will happen soon.
But in order for the long-awaited inexpensive heat to come into the house, it must meet certain criteria. The old village hut, inherited from your ancestors, will have to be thoroughly improved in order to use “blue fuel” in it.
Connecting will be much easier if you are just building your dream home. Indeed, in this case, it is possible to take into account all the requirements of gas workers at the project stage. By the way, the law allows starting gasification at the initial stage of construction.
Questions and answers
The gas connection procedure consists of several stages and usually takes about a year. Before contacting a gas distribution organization, it is worth checking if you have any problems at the “zero” stage.
Make sure that:
1. Your building is registered in the USRN, has an owner on whose behalf the connection will be made. Remember that incorrectly executed or missing documents for the house can be the reason for the refusal to connect the gas.
2. The room in which you want to place the equipment complies with the regulations. The kitchen area with a four-burner stove and a heating boiler must be at least 15 square meters. meters. The height of the ceilings is also taken into account – at least 2.2 m. It is unacceptable to place gas equipment in residential premises – bedrooms, children’s rooms, living rooms. A ban has also been imposed on the placement of such devices in bathrooms.
3. The room is equipped with natural ventilation.
Please note that a kitchen hood with a fan cannot be considered as such – you need a constantly open exhaust duct. It is also important to ensure the flow of air – install an inlet valve into the wall or cut a window into the window.
4. There is a grounding in the electrical network of the house that meets the requirements for household electrical networks.
“When connecting a house to the gas network, questions about ventilation, electricity and water supply, of course, arise. But everything is solvable, – says Igor Gudov, head of the Unified Service Center of the branch of Gazprom Gas Distribution Orenburg. In practice, we sometimes face much more complex problems. For example, we were recently contacted by an applicant who wanted to connect gas from the street network on the other side of the highway. It is technically difficult to implement such a project, it requires the involvement of special equipment, and therefore its cost is quite high. As a result, the applicant was forced to abandon his plans. There was a case when, in the presence of technical feasibility, the owner of a gas pipeline in a section adjacent to the applicant refused to connect. An alternative version of the project assumed a greater length and a completely different cost, which the client did not initially count on. A refusal from our side was recently received by the owner, who built a large house in the village, where all the capacities had already been exhausted – there was simply not enough gas pressure in the pipe to connect. But in fact, such cases are very rare. As a rule, all appeals to us end happily – heat comes to urban development, and to rural houses, and to cottage settlements.
By the way, about cottage settlements. If the area of your house is about 350 square meters. meters or more, for heating you will need powerful gas equipment. It will no longer be possible to place it in the kitchen, you need a separate room – a boiler room or a heat generator, as experts call it. It is permissible to equip such a room in the basement and basement floors of private residential buildings.
Problems of choice: wall or floor?
Another question that will have to be decided in advance is what devices will be used in a house connected to gas? And here an inexperienced buyer can get confused. There is a huge selection of heating equipment on the market today. And in order not to be mistaken, it is better to use the help of specialists.
“There are single-circuit boilers (working only for heating) and double-circuit boilers (with the function of heating water), volatile (requiring connection to the mains) and non-volatile, with an open combustion chamber (air flow for gas combustion comes from the room) and closed, floor and wall , domestic and imported, – says Dmitry Pryakhin, senior master of the maintenance service for in-house gas equipment of the branch of JSC Gazprom Gas Distribution Tula in the village of Kosaya Gora. – Also, boilers can be equipped with a built-in pump, an electronic control unit and other elements that increase safety, comfort and ease of use. The advantage of wall-mounted boilers is, first of all, their compactness, as well as the diversity of the model range. But still, this equipment is limited in maximum power and has a much shorter service life compared to floor-standing boilers, which are not limited in power, have a simpler design and allow you to create a developed and controlled heating system.”
Now let’s talk about the difference between open and closed combustion chambers: if the boiler belongs to the first option, it takes oxygen for combustion from the same room where it is installed. It is clear that such a device is best placed in a room specially designated for it, and not in the kitchen. The second version of the device, with a closed combustion chamber, is equipped with a fan for forced smoke removal, and the combustion air comes from the street or from the ventilation duct. Suppose your house is not too big, but there are two bathrooms and a sink in the kitchen. Is it really necessary to build a boiler room?
“Absolutely not necessary,” says Dmitry. – In this case, it is advisable to install a conventional double-circuit boiler. In a small house, the power of the boiler will be small, so heating equipment can be installed in the kitchen. The main thing is that the volume of this room complies with regulatory requirements. One way or another, when drawing up a project that is necessary for connecting to a gas distribution network, specialists will offer you all acceptable equipment placement options.
Smart, even smarter
The automation of a modern gas boiler stops it when the flame in the burner goes out, as well as in case of violations in the combustion products removal system. This increases security, but also adds to the hassle. It is especially unpleasant if the boiler “stands up”, and it is winter outside and there is a high risk of freezing the heating system.
To the delight of the owners of cottages, who visit there in the cold season, there are models of boilers on the market that notify the owner of a malfunction via the Internet.
If you have Wi-Fi in your home, you can even turn on the heating devices in the “smart home” system and control the temperature in your country residence remotely. At the same time, it must be remembered that it is not safe to leave a house with a working gas boiler unattended for a long period.
Let’s summarize. Gas is economical, reliable and environmentally friendly. We decided to use “blue fuel” in the house – go to the website of the gas distribution organization in your region, register in your personal account, follow the recommendations of specialists – and do not hesitate to seek advice through feedback tools.
After all, it is better to resolve all issues in advance, so that later you can enjoy comfort and coziness.
