Svetlana Tegin with special trepidation is waiting for the release of the series “Vertinsky”, it is scheduled for September 13 in the KION online cinema. Indeed, in this project, the designer worked for the cinema for the first time in her life. Svetlana kindly told how it all began: “Eight years ago, director Dunya Smirnova wrote to me on Facebook *, we didn’t know her at all before. In the letter, she said that she was going to do such a big project, a film or a series about Vertinsky, it was still not entirely clear. I told her that I had never worked in the cinema. Dunya wrote: “I know very well what you do, but I would like you to make the costumes.” We immediately met, discussed everything, she showed the script. And it was necessary to quickly prepare a presentation for Channel One, with which this project was supposed to be carried out. I had to make sketches of costumes in a short time. Three days before my vacation.

Then there was a presentation of these sketches and the project in general. And then it was … 4 years of waiting and silence. It became clear that the project is huge, simply colossal. And it was necessary to find financial support. For these four years, I just froze, did not think about it, although, of course, I really wanted the project to take place. This is my favorite era. Actually I love retro. And in each of my collections there are quotes from the twenties, then the thirties, then the forties.

After four years of waiting, Dunya Smirnova said: “Finally, we are starting, we are launching.” She invited Dima Andreev, and I felt calmer in my soul, because, of course, having no experience in cinema, I was very worried. I was afraid to take on such a large project right away. Dima and I formed a team. It seems to me that we managed, no one has yet seen the final version of the series. We are all waiting. But I hope that we will not disappoint the audience with our work. We gave her a lot of strength, we tried very hard.

Vertinsky was played by Alexei Filimonov, who, I am sure, will win the hearts of the audience. The entire female part of our film group was absolutely in love with this wonderful actor, seeing how amazing he is as a professional. The burden that fell on his shoulders was enormous. I don’t know who could endure this, he played an old man in the morning, a middle-aged man in the afternoon, and young Vertinsky in the evening.

We had a preparatory period for six months, and a filming period for six months. We made all the costumes for the series at Tegin Fashion House. In parallel, I traveled to Paris for exhibitions, and this allowed me to make important purchases. By the way, I thank the fashion historian Alexander Vasilyev for the tip, he was the one who told me which vintage stores I need to visit. There I got all sorts of gloves, hats, jewelry. After all, I had to come up with costumes for both Vera Kholodnaya and Marlene Dietrich.

And all the actresses, smart ones, always came to try on, and there were a lot of them. And Paulina Andreevawho played Vera Kholodnaya, and Victoria Isakovashe got the role Marlene Dietrich. Vika didn’t have any days off at that time, she had a very busy schedule, so she brought her husband, director Yuri Moroz, and daughter Varya to the fitting.

It is quite logical that his new collection Svetlana Tegin devoted to the series “Vertinsky”, its release on the screens, and the models echo those coats and dresses that the audience will soon be able to see on the screen.

After all, the release of the collection coincides with the release of the Vertinsky TV series. Models and details of the collection are reminiscent of the costumes of the main characters.

The cape with gathers and a stand-up collar refers us to the heroine Victoria Isakova, the coat with a detachable fur collar to the heroine Anna Mikhalkova, the straight silhouettes of the coat, like that of the heroine Paulina Andreeva. Tuxedos and tailcoats with open backs, floor-length dresses with velvet tops, capes, velvet trousers, silk shirt blouses—everything breathes the charm of the Vertinsky era.

The main length of the collection is maxi. Straight and tapered silhouettes. In choosing fabrics for the collection, Svetlana turns to her favorite materials of the last century. Merino wool, silk satin, silk velvet. Complements the choice of sheepskin of the lightest modern dressing.

The colors of the collection are chosen according to the tastes of that era. Charcoal black, milky white, gray-blue, smoky gray, pale pink.
