Hand tools
Kind
Set of hand tools – consists of hand tools for manicure / pedicure. Advantages: relatively low cost, independence from power supply. The disadvantage is the slow processing of nails and skin, which increases the time spent on cosmetic procedures.
Fraser – electric machine with a motor for manicure / pedicure. It is supplied with several nozzles (mills) for different operations. Advantages: high speed of execution of procedures, ease of use, versatility. Cons: high price, power supply required.
Purpose
For women — differ in a variety of tools and functionality. Such cosmetic sets are most common.
For men — characterized by a more modest set of devices and functions. Sometimes a shaving machine is included in the package.
Usage
For home — equipped with a low-power milling cutter (up to 35 W), and the sets themselves do not take up much space and are relatively cheap. Household models are designed for inexperienced users. Disadvantages: short service life, dependence on batteries (milling cutter), a large number of poor quality products.
Professional – have a powerful and reliable router (up to 100 W) designed for manicure / pedicure masters and beauty salons. Such kits are multifunctional, thanks to a wide range of tools and attachments. All fixtures are made from durable materials. Cons: high cost, bulkiness, dependence on the outlet (milling cutter).
Hand tools
Kind
Manual manicure / pedicure sets are completed with scissors and nippers for cutting nails and cuticles. Compared to scissors, nippers are designed for more “rough” work, for example, for removing thick nails.
Important: Nail scissors have straight-tipped blades, but their counterparts for cutting cuticles have blades with rounded edges.
Other tools
Stick / spatula (pusher) for cuticles — makes it possible to lift the cuticle for its subsequent removal with nippers or a trimmer. One end of the pusher is often made in the form of a hatchet (scraper) to clean the free edge of the nail and its side ridges. The stick is made of wood, the spatula is made of metal.
Hoof — plays the same role as a stick / spatula, but has a more delicate effect. Made from rubber or plastic.
Trimmer — allows you to gently get rid of the cuticle. Often combined with a shoulder blade. A good alternative to wire cutters or scissors.
Tweezers (knipser) — safer than scissors and nippers, but not suitable for fine nail processing. The tweezers are included in the men’s manicure/pedicure set.
Sawdust — serves to trim the edge of the nail. Most often it is metal and glass. The first option is stronger and cheaper, the second one is more gentle on the nail. A metal nail file is better suited for processing thick or artificial nails, it is more convenient to trim thin nails with a glass analog. There are also ceramic nail files — the best choice for exfoliating nails.
Tweezers — used to correct eyebrows, remove hairs on the arms and legs.
Nozzles for milling cutter
Application
- Sawing — corrects the shape of the nails, makes their edges even and smooth.
- Grinding — removes calluses and rough skin.
- Polishing — gives the surface of the nail plate smoothness and shine.
There are nozzles for processing cuticles, removing gel polish, as well as for patients with diabetes.
Kind
- Cone — based on the purpose, it is used for polishing or grinding the skin.
- Disc — depending on the purpose, it grinds the skin, polishes or files the nails.
- Cylindrical — removes dead skin near the nails.
- Spherical — allows you to get rid of cuticles, provides gentle treatment of nails.
- Brush — gently cleans the nail from dirt.
- For lifting the cuticle — makes it possible to delicately trim the cuticle.
- Pedicure roller — removes rough skin.
Number of nozzles — the higher this parameter, the more manicure operations the router is able to perform. At the same time, with an increase in the number of nozzles, the price, dimensions and weight of a manicure set increase.
Nozzle material
Diamond — characterized by a maximum service life. It is convenient to work with diamond cutters with small corns, cuticles, rough skin, acrylic nails.
Ceramic — softer and more delicate than the previous version. Nails and side ridges are treated with such nozzles, cracks and corns are removed. Minus — wear out quickly. The best choice for beginners.
Silicone — suitable for smoothing and polishing nails. Silicone cutters are also used to prepare the nail plate for extension.
Important: Pay attention to the fact that the nozzles differ from each other in shape and degree of grit. These parameters determine their purpose. For example, coarse-grained diamond tips will help get rid of rough skin, fine-grained cutters are convenient to work with cuticles.
Speed
Number of speeds – affects the efficiency of the router. The larger this parameter, the wider the range of tasks that the router can handle (for each procedure, its own speed is selected).
Max Speed — depends on the power of the router and determines how quickly the router will process the nail or skin. In home models, this characteristic does not exceed 25,000 rpm, in professional appliances — 35,000-40,000 rpm or more. Such milling cutters are designed for a large amount of work and are equipped with a cooling system, which is important for prolonged use.
Also, when choosing a router for maximum speed, the expected range of tasks is taken into account:
- manicure on natural nails — 10,000-15,000 rpm;
- removal of gel polish from nails — 12,000-20,000 rpm;
- nail extension, mixed pedicure — 25,000 rpm;
- pedicure — 35,000 rpm;
- medical pedicure — 50,000 rpm.
Important: beginners should not chase speed, as a professional router requires special skills. Otherwise, there is a high probability of damaging the nails.
Functions
Reverse – rotates the cutter in the opposite direction. Simplifies the processing of nails if the hands change their position.
Speed control — presented in two ways:
- stepped — consists in choosing between certain speed values;
- smooth — provides more precise adjustment of the speed of rotation of the nozzle than stepped. At the same time, smooth adjustment is less convenient for beginners.
Backlight — allows you to work with a router in low ambient light.
Operation indication — indicates the device is turned on.
Food
Batteries — allow you to work with a router without connecting to a power outlet. In addition, depleted batteries can be quickly replaced with new ones. Minus — fixed costs for the purchase of new batteries.
Battery — has the same advantage as batteries, but saves money. Compared to batteries, the battery has a large capacity, which increases the operating time of the router. The disadvantage is that it requires an outlet and time to recharge the battery.
Net — provides stable power supply to the router. Minus — dependence on the outlet.
Important: when purchasing a cordless router, ask about the maximum operating time on one set of batteries / battery charge. The higher this figure, the better. Manufacturers indicate the nominal value based on ideal conditions, for example, with a slight load on the nozzle. Therefore, the actual operating time of the device is always less than the nominal one.
Equipment
Nail dryer — Accelerates the drying process of nail polish. Drying is done with a UV lamp or fan. Each of these methods is compatible only with a specific type of varnish. Therefore, before choosing a router, make sure that this drying option is suitable for working with varnishes that are used in cosmetic procedures.
Bath for hands — a small reservoir for steaming nails and skin of the hands. Steaming facilitates many manicure operations, and for trimming the cuticle, this procedure is mandatory.
Mirror — built into the cover of the case. It is used for various cosmetic procedures (facial care, makeup application). But for a manicure / pedicure, such an accessory is practically useless.
Equipment
Disposable nozzles (abrasive caps) — used in pedicure for the treatment of artificial nails and the removal of rough skin, including corns. Such nozzles are not subject to disinfection and must be replaced after a cosmetic procedure.
Dust cap — collects dust that occurs during the processing of nails.
Pen holder – allows you to place a milling handle. Facilitates the work of the master, prevents scratches on the router and dust on the cutter.
Power adapter (block) – used in network devices. Protects the router from power surges.
Pedal – designed for foot control of the router (switching on / off the device). This option is simpler than the manual method, as it frees the hands of the master.
Pouch / case – makes it easier to store and transport manicure / pedicure instruments. A soft case completes sets of hand tools, a harder case — milling cutters.
Manufacturer
Among the manufacturers of devices for home manicure and pedicure, it is worth noting the brands AEG, Beurer, Clatronic, Hilton, ManiQuick, Maxwell, Panasonic, Polaris, Profi Care, Remington, Scarlett, Scholl, Sinbo, Supra, Tristar, VES, Vitek. The functionality is approximately the same for these devices. The price depends on the popularity of the brand, but in general the difference is small. Among the shortcomings, not always high reliability of devices can be noted (for example, Sinbo or Supra files often break very quickly), insufficiently high power — sometimes it is not even enough for personal needs during manicure.
Among professional devices, the most famous brands are TNL, RuNail, Irisk and others. The most simple and inexpensive models can be bought for home use. For professional use, the models are quite expensive, while they are reliable, durable and powerful enough.
